#CampfireStories

Another Labor Day live-tweet from my parents’ cottage on Torch Lake in Northern Michigan. My Dad loves few things more than building and tending a campfire. He once built up a huge mysterious Christmas present holding court beneath the tree, and it turned out to be a portable fire pit whose merits were completely lost on his suburbanite kids. I think our disappointment disappointed him.

Eventually we came round. For years now, campfires have been on the menu most summer nights. The more people around, the better. And so we, like generations before us, retread the dirt of our collective memory, telling and retelling our stories while gazing into the flames.

Here’s some stories, old and new, told over Labor Day in 2014.
